Louis Zuckett, 94, Brookville, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at Laurelbrooke Personal Care.
He was born March 22, 1920, in Washington, Pa.
He was married to Pauline L. Greco in July, 1942. She preceded him in death in February 1993. They were married for 50 years.
Louis was a World War II veteran, having served in the European theater for five years. He was proud of the time he served in the military, often relating his experiences. He loved to celebrate Veterans Day. He was a longtime member of the American Legion.
He retired from Owens-Illinois, formerly Brockway Glass Company, in 1983 after 44 years of service. His diligence afforded him the title of packaging engineer.
Although packaging was his livelihood, his major avocation was music.
He began his musical career as a student at Washington High School during the Big Band era.
He played in many Pittsburgh area bands, including with Canonsburg native Bobby Vinton, and was primarily a member of the Johnny Cimino Orchestra, playing string bass.
His passion for music continued his entire life, and he was a member of the Pittsburgh Jazz Society. He continued to perform locally into his early 80s.
Louis was also a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Brookville.
He was an avid gardener and was known as "the king of tomatoes."
He is survived by his two daughters, Mary Ann Maloney of Brookville and Barbara Lester of Pittsburgh; son-in-law, Thomas Maloney; and one granddaughter, Kelly Ann Maloney of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at the McKinney Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville, Pa. 15825. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookville with the Rev. William Laska officiating.
Burial will follow at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Rose Township, Jefferson County.
