Mary Ellen Swanson, 82, Bethel Park, formerly of West Garfield Avenue, DuBois, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at her home.
Born Dec. 10, 1932, in Falls Creek, she was the daughter of the late James and Ellen (Carlson) Allshouse. On June 5, 1954, in Falls Creek, she married Lawrence E. Swanson. He preceded her in death in 2010.
In 1993, after 22 ½ years of service, she retired from Bell of Pennsylvania as a clerk.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the White Shrine, and the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Advisory Board, and enjoyed reading, spending time with her family, playing cards and doing activities with her friends
Mary Ellen is survived by her children: Lee Ann Swanson, MD of Peters Township, Penny Truesdale and her husband, Tom, of DuBois, and D. Scott Swanson and his wife, Sandy, of Fairbanks, Alaska; a sister, Nancy Griffin of Lakewood, Colo.; and 10 grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Wendy Sayers.
There will be no public visitation.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at the chapel at Morningside Cemetery. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
