Melvin Walter McMinn Sr., age 82, of Route 219, Brockway, Pa., died on Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at the Punxsutawney Hospital.
Born in Rochester, N.Y. on Nov. 5, 1933, he was the son of the late Walter and Ethel Wall McMinn. On July 19, 1980 he was married to Donna Heberling and she survives.
Retired, Melvin served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, serving in both the Korean War as well as in Vietnam.
After his discharge, he worked at several jobs including driving school bus, truck driving and working in general maintenance type jobs.
He was a member of the Beechtree Union Church. Melvin was a life member of Parson-Marnati Post #95 of the American Legion, member of the Disabled American Veterans, and the TREA Retired Enlisted Association.
He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, tinkering around his home and making people happy. Melvin's greatest mission was making sure everyone knew they are loved by Jesus.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two sons, Melvin (Lauren) McMinn Jr. of Middletown, Pa., Matthew McMinn and his fiancée Collen Solomon of Luthersburg, Pa.; a brother, Bob (Sheila) McMinn of New York; and a sister, Martha Winters of Florida.
Along with his parents he is also preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Welsh and Doris Snyder; and two brothers, Wendell and David McMinn.
A celebration of life service as well as full military honors will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in the Beechtree Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Beechtree Union Church.
