Mena Virginia Uber, 99, of Brookville, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at Jefferson Manor.
Born in Brookville on June 6, 1916, to the late Charles T. and Elsie (Edeburn) Burkett, Mena married Herman E. Uber on Jan. 12, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1979. They owned Uber's Sheet Metal Shop, where she was the secretary for many years.
A member of the First United Methodist Church in Brookville since 1922, Mena served on many boards and committees. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, helped with Vacation Bible School and was Sunday School Secretary for over 50 years.
Mena was active in local, district and conference mission programs. She enjoyed meeting missionaries from different areas and countries, hosting them in her home, and supporting missionary projects. Mena participated in the Jefferson County Sunday School Association, the Christian Ashram, Lay Witness Missions, Brookville Area Senior Citizens, and the WCTU.
Mena is survived by a step daughter, Mrs. Betty Billings of Girard, Pa.; two nephews, William Keller of South Fork, Pa. and Harry Burkett II of Rootstown, Ohio; and a niece, Nancy Mathis of Ravenna, Ohio.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Mary C. Keller; and a brother, Harry P. Burkett; a stepson, Dr. Ralph Uber; and two stepdaughters, Margaret Blackstone and Mary Lois Bailey.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church of Brookville, co-officiated by the Reverend Dennis Johnson and the Reverend William Saxman.
Interment was at the Brookville Cemetery.
