Mervin James "Jim" Butson, 73, of Hermitage, Pa., formerly of Reynoldsville, Pa., died in his home surrounded by his family at 4:43 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2016, following an extended illness.
Born Nov. 13, 1942, in Reynoldsville, Pa., he was a son of the late Kenneth Butson and Mary (Cowie) Butson.
He graduated from Reynoldsville High School in 1960.
Jim worked at Preston Trucking in West Middlesex, Pa., as a mechanic for over 15 years, retiring in 1996. Earlier, Jim worked as a heavy equipment operator in the coal mining industry and on Pennsylvania roadways, most notably I-79 and I-80.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964.
Jim was a member of American Legion Post 392 in Reynoldsville, Pa. Jim enjoyed working on all vehicles and lawn equipment as well as his golf cart. He loved cutting his lawn and being outdoors. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as being a Pittsburgh Steeler Fan.
His wife, Janet Marie (Alessi) Butson, whom he married Aug. 15, 1975, in Reynoldsville, Pa., survives at home. He is also survived by one daughter, Tammy Angeletti of Hershey, Pa.; one son, Russell James Butson of Big Run, Pa.; two brothers, Kenneth "Dick" Butson and his wife Joanne of Reynoldsville, Pa. and Gary L. Butson of Emerickville, Pa.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitiation will be held from 2 p.m. to the time of service Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at John Flynn Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2630 E. State St., Hermitage, Pa.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016, in the funeral home chapel with Msgr. Robert M. Malene officiating and military honors with the Wheatland, West Middlesex, Farrell Honor Guard.
Mr. Butson's ashes will be interred at St. Mary's Cemetery in Reynoldsville, Pa., at a later date.
