Michael Lee Cope, Sr. was called home to be with his heavenly father on November 18, 2018.
Michael was born August 3,1938, in Brockway, Pa. After graduation from Brockway Area High School, Michael enlisted in the USAF. He served four years. Upon leaving the military, Michael went to work for Burroughs Corporation as a computer engineer. In 1965, Michael and Anita were relocated to Colorado Springs, Colo., where Michael took part in the installation of the first computers inside Cheyenne Mt. NORAD complex. He attained a Top Secret Clearance. He left the Burroughs Corporation and went to work for the Digital Corporation as a field engineer.
Michael was named District Manager for Hewlett Packard on the military side.
Michael was active in the El Paso County Masonic Lodge #76 and obtained the 33 degree. He was also a Shriner and served on the Crippled Children Hospital in Denver as a representative.
Michael enjoyed spending time at his property in the Colorado Mountains. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Michael was a private pilot and achieved his multi engine CFI.
Michael was a 50+ year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs serving as a deacon and several other positions.
Michael is survived by Anita Wood Cope; his sons, Michael Lee Cope II and Clark Laine Cope and daughter, Kimber Leigh Demos; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and his best friend, Cole, a black lab.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and his beloved grandson, Edward Zamarripa, Jr.
A graveside service will take place on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Morningside Cemetery in DuBois. Full military honors will be accorded immediately following by Parson-Marnati Post #95 of the American Legion.
The Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway is handling the local arrangements. Online condolences may be left at csfhinc.com.
