Mildred "Jean" (Geist) Thrush, age 87, Route 322 of the Roseville area, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, as a patient of the Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.
Jean was born on Jan. 19, 1930, to the late Pierce I. and Lulu Marie (Smith) Geist, in Clover Twp., Jefferson Co., Pa. Jean attended school in the Brookville area, graduating with the class of 1947. On Aug. 20, 1949, Jean married Lee Edward Thrush in Corsica, Pa.; Lee preceded her in passing on March 7, 2017.
She was an active member of the Roseville Independent Chapel. Jean had a strong faith and testimony in her Lord Jesus Christ; always striving to emulate His example and spread the gospel in her own way.
All of Jean's working career was spent at the Brookville Glove Factory, eventually retiring as a bookkeeper.
She really enjoyed cars; still possessing the 1981 Camaro she purchased brand new. Throughout her life she had many different pets including cats, dogs, and even a toad; she simply loved all kinds of animals and nature in general. Jean was very proud of her home and property, of which she made sure was always neat and tidy. She loved this time of year because of all the leaves and colors. She enjoyed raking the leaves into little piles so she could burn them, along with the small amount of excess brush that always found its way into the yard. Jean was always very concerned with her family and friends, making sure that everyone was comfortable and cared for. In her later years, when attention was needed for her own care, she would make sure to ask about Lee and the children, ensuring that everyone was taken care of. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it.
Jean loved all the Pittsburgh sports teams, making sure to watch as many games as she could. She always prepared food at home, rarely eating anything out of a box, and she baked the best chocolate chip cookies.
She was a beautiful person both inside and out, and she always carried herself as a lady should. Her family misses her dearly, while feeling joy in her reunion with Lee.
Jean is survived by her son, Brian (Patricia) Thrush of Summerville, Pa.; her daughter, Karen (Mark) McKinney of Brookville, Pa.; her son, Kevin (Diane Paige) Thrush of Brookville, Pa.; her brother, Pierce I. Geist Jr.; her grandsons, Paul Thrush, Aaron Thrush, and Scott (Erin) Songer; her granddaughters, Andrea (Doug) Lumley, and Lori Songer; four great-grandchildren: Allie, Ashley, Luke, Jared; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean is preceded in death by her sister, Estella Klins; her brother, Robert Geist; and one grandson, Zachary Thrush.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m., at the McKinney–d'Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825.
