Miriam R. Freeman, 82, 190 Hastings St., Brookville, went to her Heavenly home, Monday, May 11, 2015.
Born March 5, 1933, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of Andrew George Freeman and Ruth Anderson Freeman.
She was educated in the Chicago Public Schools and graduated from the Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing. She went on to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and graduated in 1958 with a BS in Nursing.
She worked for several years at University Hospitals of Cleveland before moving to Philadelphia. She worked for the city of Philadelphia as a Public Health Nurse and then several years until retirement with the Visiting Nurse Association.
In 1999, she moved to Brookville to share a home with her friend, Connie Slay.
Miriam was very involved in the churches in the cities where she lived, and was particularly interested and involved in mission programs.
In three trips to the Far East, she visited missionaries in several countries and was privileged to attend a house church in China.
In Brookville, she attended the First Baptist Church, sang in the choir, was a substitute Sunday school teacher, church librarian and helped with Operation Christmas Child.
She was an avid reader and a resource person in many areas.
Miriam is survived by her two brothers, Dr. Dwight (Jani) Freeman of Portland, Ore., and Wesley (Louise) Freeman of Mountain View, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews in California, Oregon and Alaska, as well as several cousins.
Family and friends will be received from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015, at the McKinney Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville PA, 15825. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2015, at the First Baptist Church, 101 Main St. Brookville PA, 15825.
