Nancy Meighen Obituary

Nancy Susan Ausec Meighen, 85, of DuBois, PA died Saturday, September 4, 2021 at her home.

Born May 29, 1936, in Jeannette, PA, she was the second daughter of three born to the late Naomi Josephine Harvison Ausec and Frank (Fritz) Ausec.

She graduated salutatorian of Jeannette High School's Class of 1953. She served as Secretary to the Director of Recreation of the City of Greensburg before dedicating herself to raising her family.

She married James William Meighen on October 24, 1953. Bill died on May 9, 1993.

Nancy was an active member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and served on the Women's Guild, Consistory, as a Sunday School Teacher and as an assistant to the Treasurer. Her volunteerism included being a Cub Scout Den Mother, a DuBois Public Library Story Hour Teacher to three-year-olds, a volunteer driver delivering meals for the Community Center and as an aide in the DuBois Elementary Schools.

She delighted in gardening, working outside, reading and drawing. Nancy's gifts of optimism and smiles were shared with many and will be fondly remembered. Her laugh was contagious and she always sat at the "kids' table" for holidays. (It was the most fun!)

She was the heart of her family. Being a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother brought her joy. Her family cherished her.

She is survived by daughter, Dennie Malacarne and husband John of DuBois; son Jeff Meighen and wife Marilyn of York, PA; son Kurt Meighen of DuBois and son Mark Meighen and wife Jackie of Greenville. Her grandchildren include Tim and Roopa, Jonathan and Janet and Mark and Lauren Malacarne, Shaun and Mac Meighen, Caleb and Cole Meighen, and Jenna and Josh Tofani and Allyson and Amy Meighen. Her great grandchildren are Kai and Benjamin Malacarne, and Daphne and Theodore Tofani. She is also survived by sister Judy Pahnos of Orchard Park, NY; brother-in-law Don Kuhns of Greensburg, PA and sister-in-law, Lynn Zimmerman of Harrison City, PA and niece Heather Johnson and nephews Doug and Andy Pahnos, Greg Kuhns and Jim and Jay Zimmerman.

In addition to her husband Bill, she was preceded in death by mother-in-law Esther Huffman Meighen Smith, daughter- in- law Wendy Kuhns Meighen and sister, L. Kathleen Kuhns.

There will be no public visitation.

A private family funeral service will be held from the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Pastor Robert Newell officiating.

Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St., Peter's United Church of Christ, 13 North High St., and/or the DuBois Public Library, 31 South Brady St., and/or Parkside Community Center, 120 West Park Ave., all in DuBois, PA 15801.
