Norma J. "Chauncey" Murray, 84, 2030 Reynoldsville Falls Creek Road, Reynoldsville, died at noon Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at her home.
Born May 17, 1930, in Knox, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Mary Belle Fleming Hanst. She married Lawrence A. Murray. He preceded her in death Oct. 16, 2003.
Before retirement, she was employed by Cameron Manufacturing Co., Reynoldsville.
Norma was a 49-year member of the American Legion Post #392 Auxiliary. She was very active for many years having at one time or other held the positions of First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Sergeant of Arms and Chaplain. She helped cook and serve for many special events and dinners. She enjoyed going to Bingo prior to becoming ill.
Norma had become an avid TV watcher and would not miss "The Price is Right," "Jeopardy," or "Big Bang Theory" during the week.
On weekends during racing season, she would watch her favorite NASCAR driver, Carl Edwards, and during football season her favorite team, Tennessee Titans.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and enjoyed family get-togethers and reunions at the "farm."
She was Protestant by faith.
Norma is survived by two daughters and a son, Janet (Vince) Anderson, Lisa (Kevin) Smith and Larry (Connie) Murray, all of Reynoldsville; five grandchildren: Bradley Anderson, Casey (Harry Rosman) Murray, Justin Murray, James (Kelli) Hester and Cody Smith; two great-granddaughters, Kadience and Lexy Laska; four sisters: Bonnie L. Dodge of Erie, Sara Lewis of Shippensville, Theresa Stamm of Clyde, Ohio, and Beatrice Heasley of Knox; and two brothers, Gary (Serveria) Hanst of Reynoldsville and Robert (Janet) Hanst of Knox.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John W. and Harry "Buck" Hanst.
Friends will be received from 10-11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at the Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home in Reynoldsville. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville.
