Opal J. Butler, age 78, of Bennetts Valley Hwy., Penfield, Pa., went home to be with the Lord, Dec. 29, 2016, from Penn Highlands DuBois, while surrounded by her family.
Born Jan. 2, 1938, in Manassas, Va., she was a daughter of the late Malvin and Edna (Cordell) Schaeffer. On Sept. 29, 1956, she was married to Reverend Samuel W. Butler. He survives in Penfield.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Fonda Butler of Mt. Pocono, Pa., Tammie (Marvin) McClintick of Penfield, Pa., Jeffrey (Bonnie) Butler of Malabar, Fla.; two grandchildren, Erin and Eric; one great-grandson, Austin; two brothers, Marvin Schaeffer and Robert Schaeffer, both of Virginia; two sisters, Dorothy Havener of West Virginia and Lois Williams of Virginia.
She was predeceased by her parents, four brothers: Jesse, Eldridge, William and Cecil Schaeffer; one sister, Virginia Wolf.
Opal was a graduate of Osbourn High School of Manassas, Va.
She had worked at the Riverside offices of DuBois, and ran her own Day Care, "Little Lambs" for 10 years. Being a preacher's wife, she spent most of her time helping others through church committees and through her role as missionary president.
A lifelong member of the Wesleyan Church, she enjoyed sharing her faith with everyone, especially her close neighbors.
Born and raised in Manassas, Va., she came to Pennsylvania with her husband in 1960, spending many years in Stroudsburg and Weedville, among other communities, until retiring to Penfield in 2014.
Friends will be received Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield, Pa. Additional visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, from 10–11 a.m. at the Weedville Wesleyan Church, Weedville, Pa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with Reverend Paul Gray and Reverend Randy Swink.
Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Weedville, Pa.
