Pennie J. (Rosenhoover) Shaner, 72, of River Road, Weedville, died Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Christ the King Manor after an illness of several months.
She was born Feb. 3, 1944, to the late Jerome and Virginia (Huffman) Rosenhoover. Pennie married William "Bill" Shaner on Aug. 2, 1975; he predeceased her Dec. 25, 2013.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen (David Nellis) Schwentner of State College; a step-daughter, Theresa (Terry) Sackett of Altoona; a step-son, Jeff Shaner of Connecticut; a brother, Samuel (Cheryl) Rosenhoover of DuBois; a sister, Sandra Haynoski of St. Marys; several nieces and nephews and a close friend, Steve Haynoski.
Besides her parents and husband, Pennie was also predeceased by a daughter, Colleen McGill.
Pennie graduated from Johnsonburg Area Schools where she born and raised. She worked at Loblaws and later Bells Grocery and 21 years at Metaldyne, all of St. Marys, retiring in 2011. In 1966 she moved to Bennetts Valley. She was a member of St. Joseph Church of Force; enjoyed Bingo, traveling and Penn State football. She was said to be "one of a kind," loving life and a lot of fun.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2016, at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home of Penfield, and also from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Force, Pa., with the Rev. Father William Sutherland as celebrant.
Burial will be in the Church cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Hahne Cancer Center or Christ the King Manor, in recognition of the excellent care Pennie received.
