Raymond D, Wells, 94, 514 E. Main St., Reynoldsville, died Thursday morning, July 17, 2014, at the DuBois Nursing Home. He was formerly of Sandy Valley.
Born July 2, 1920, in Sandy Valley, he was a son of the late Lester Wells and Sarah Bebe Wells. He was married to Norma Martin Wells on Oct. 24, 1939. She preceded him in death in July 1994.
He retired as a union bricklayer after 64 years.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army PFC.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 392 and Local 9 American Bricklayers Union.
Survivors include his longtime companion, Doris Wells of Reynoldsville; a son, Jackson D. (Peach) Wells of Reynoldsville; three grandchildren: Terrie (Jake) Merrell of Punxsutawney, John (Kim) Wells of Reynoldsville, Larry (Bridgett) Wells of Reynoldsville; nine great-grandchildren: Ashley Parson, Danielle Merrell, Jessica Wells, Haley Wells, Jenna Merrell, Nathan Adams, Taylor Wells, Jennsen Wells and Jacey Wells; and one great-great-grandaughter, Makayla Parson.
He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Joshua Simmons; a brother, Burton Wells; and eight sisters: Helen Smith, Nellie Murray, Nora Senior, Zella Ferringer, Ruby Smith, Maxine Peterman Griffith, Vera Kesti Banal and Verda Pasierb.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home in Reynoldsville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Sandy Valley Cemetery, Reynoldsville.
