Richard Byron Hadfield, 71, of Coudersport, Pa., died Thursday, June 8, 2017, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital after a short illness.
Born Aug. 16, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late William and Euzella (LaBadie) Hadfield.
Survived closest by his two sons, Richard of Coudersport and Gregory of Williston, N.D.; a stepson, Shaun McIlwain; and their mother, Patricia of Punxsutawney. His sisters: Joanne Climie, Bristol, Pa., Susan Breece, Bristol, Karen Mattis, Canyon Lake, Texas, and their significant others. His brothers: James "Tex" Climie, Bellville, Texas, Robert Hadfield, Bristol, Steven Hadfield, Bristol, David Hadfield, White Haven, Pa., and their significant others. A myriad of nieces, nephews, and the like.
Preceded in death by his son, John, along with a small army of other Hadfields and Climies.
Rich lived much of his life in the Fergusonville/Bristol area, 15 years in Penfield and the past six years in Coudersport.
Rich loved hunting, his family, friends, being in the woods, Miller High Life, The Moose Club, The Firemen's club, The Pulaski Club, steak in a frying pan, gardening, Marlboro reds, a good story, Time Magazine, building things, dogs, getting up way too early, and most of all, he loved his boys.
During his years in Penfield he worked maintenance at the DuBois Nursing Home. He was generally a carpenter/plumber working for many friends in his localities. It is best said about Rich: He built things, lots of things and he died peacefully, alone, as he wanted.
A memorial will be held at a later date. His explicit instructions were to "have a party."
The family suggests memorials to the Penfield Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 53, Penfield, PA 15849 and will be accepting online condolences at
