Richard met and married the love of his life Rosalee Kolosky Powell "Sis" in July of 1966. The couple settled in Uniontown, where they raised their four children, Jodi, Richard Jr., Michael and Shawna.
Richard was a devoted husband and father and to anyone who knew him, his family was always first, and will be greatly missed by all that loved him.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 50 wonderful years, Rosalee Kolosky Powell and his parents, William and Eliza Powell of Brockway, Pa.
He is survived by his brother, William Powell and wife Karen of Brockway, Pa.
Richard was the loving father of Jodi Powell Butler and husband Dan of Uniontown, Pa., Richard W. Powell Jr. and wife Julie of Pt. Marion, Pa., Michael Powell of Uniontown, Pa. and Shawna Powell - Earnest Jenkins of Uniontown, Pa.
Richard was proud of his children but was overjoyed when he became a "grandpa" to Drew and Hayley McGettigan, Theresa, Sarah and Jeffrey Butler, Logan Spiker and Baylee Powell, Ryan, Klayton and Nathan Jenkins, and was ecstatic when he became a "great grandpa" to Brantley Intorre and Daxton McGettigan, several nieces and nephews.
Richard was originally from Brockway, Pa. He was a United States Army veteran. Richard was very active in sports and was scouted by many professional teams for his numerous no-hitters in baseball. He decided to pursue a career in law enforcement and entered the Police Academy and enlisted with the Pennsylvania State Police on Feb. 20, 1964. He served in the Uniontown and the Belle Vernon barracks honorably and faithfully until his retirement on Aug. 31, 1990.
After retirement Richard and his wife operated the Jailhouse Golf Driving Range and Miniature Golf on Morgantown Road in Uniontown, Pa., which he enjoyed as much as he loved golfing. Richard had a kind and gentle heart and would help anyone who needed it.
