Roger B. Jacoby, CLU Chfc, age 87 of Chambersburg, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Menno Haven in Chambersburg. He was born June 26, 1931 in Orange, NJ, a son of the late Raymond I. and Myrtle B. (Kingsland) Jacoby.
Roger graduated from Worcester Academy in Worcester, Mass. He earned an A.B. in Psychology from Lafayette College in 1957. He trained dogs in Germany where he served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an insurance agent for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance in State College, Pa., for 37 years. Roger was Past President of State College Chamber of Commerce, Past President of State College Jaycees, Past President of Pa. Assoc. of Life Underwriters and a long-time member of State College Optimist Club. He was a member of Middle Spring Presbyterian Church in Shippensburg.
Roger was an avid Penn State Football fan, where he held season tickets since 1963. He loved all sports and cheered for Philadelphia professional sports teams. He was an avid swimmer, swimming daily until recently. He donated many gallons of blood over his lifetime and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. He was a Menno Haven volunteer for 11 years. Along with his wife Anne he was a greeter at the reception desk, he transported Menno Haven residents around campus and to doctors' appointments. Roger will be most remembered for his Thursday visits with his two dachshunds to the skilled nursing care residents of Menno Haven.
His wife, Anne N. Jacoby passed away in April of 2018. He is survived by two daughters, Linda and husband David Rhoades of Mechanicsburg, Marjorie and husband Duane Steiner of Huntingdon; one son, Randall Jacoby of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren: Rachel Steiner, Daniel Steiner, Kaitlyn Zimmerman and Erin Rhoades; and one brother, Raymond Jacoby of South Hero, Vt. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter and sister, Sarah Jacoby.
Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 2 at the Chapel at Menno Haven, 2075 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg with Chaplain Adam Leeper officiating.
