Ruby L. (Taylor) Hallowell, age 79, of Erie, passed away at her residence, Tuesday, May 17, 2016.
Born in Helena, Mont., March 14, 1937, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary Magdalen (Glanton) Taylor.
Ruby was a graduate of St. Helena Catholic School. She started working in her 20's at Marx Toy Co., and then moved on to Sears in downtown Erie as a gift wrapper, only to move up the ladder when Sears moved to the Millcreek Mall. Ruby then oversaw various departments, including draperies and furniture as her main departments. Ruby forged many lifelong friendships there as well as being active in the Sears Retiree Club. She enjoyed many hobbies, her weekly ceramic classes, her love for animals, shopping, camping, family get togethers, as well as cooking, baking, sewing and crafting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Delores (Taylor) Brokaw, Sydney (Taylor) and Ellen Bromlie; five brothers: Lewis and Bill "Bub" Taylor, Donald Sandaine, Ralph LaCourse and George Taylor.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Max E. Hallowell Jr., of Summit Township; they both fell in love 55 years ago in Los Angeles; two children, Fred L. Henrickson and Terry L. Murray, both of North East; nine grandchildren: Wesley Barrett of Erie, Melissa (Barrett) Morgan, husband Ben, of Austin, Texas, Michael Barrett, wife Jessica, of Erie, Sherrie (Barrett) Smith of Northeast, Pa. Laura Murray, of Wesleyville, Pa., Jessica and James Murray, of Northeast, Pa., Brenda (Henrickson) Gillen, of McCook, Neb. and Scott Henrickson, of Lincoln, Neb.; a sister, Rose "Susie" (Taylor) Pulling, of Missoula, Mont., and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd., Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. and to attend a funeral Mass at All Saints Parish, 11264 Route 97N, Waterford, Pa. 16441, Friday at 9 a.m. Private burial will be in Lakelawn Memorial Park, in Reynoldsville, Pa., where Ruby will be reunited with her lifelong friend of many years, her dog, Bo Bo.
