Ruby L. Thomas, 80, of Brookville, Pa., passed away on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville, Pa.
She was born on May 3, 1936, the daughter of the late Merle Clinton Thomas and Sara Elizabeth Harriger Thomas.
Ruby graduated from the Brookville Area High School, and the Bradford School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1956.
She worked as a registered nurse for the VA Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Pa., and retired from the VA Hospital in Butler, Pa.
Ruby attended the Ramsaytown United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed playing the piano and singing in the choir.
She spent her whole adult life caring for others, and Ruby especially loved her family and was always there when she was needed.
She loved walking, gardening, and farming.
Ruby is survived by one brother, LeRoy Thomas of Brookville, Pa.; and two sisters, Phoebe Gelnette of Brookville, Pa. and June Christian of Falls Creek, Pa. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Clinton Thomas, Lawrence "Bill" Thomas; and six sisters: Helen "Nancy" Knapp, Doris Cochran, Ilene "Jackie" Monks, Jean Davis, Anna "Marie" Hetrick, and Betty Zitzelberger.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today, Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, at the Peterson Funeral Home, 153 Jefferson St., Brookville, Pa., with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Garvey officiating.
Burial will take place at Lakelawn Memorial Park in Reynoldsville, Pa.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ramsaytown United Methodist Church, 161 Main St., Worthville, PA 15784, or to the donor's choice.
