Samuel L. Williams (1927 - 2014)

Samuel L. Williams, 86, Fuller Avenue, Falls Creek, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at the DuBois Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 13, 1927, in DuBois, he was the son of the late Theopolis and Leona Snyder Williams. On Dec. 13, 1979, he married Carolyn Brylinski Williams. She survives.
Sam was a 1945 graduate of the DuBois Area High School where he was active in gymnastics, wrestling and baseball.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army.
He retired as a machinist after many years of service in Cape Cod, Mass.
He was an avid sports fan and had served on the DuBois Area School Board.
Sam was one of the founders of the United States Wrestling Officials Association where he served as vice president.
He was also inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2006 where he was given a lifetime achievement award.
He is survived by his son, Samuel L. Williams II of Florida; stepson, Mark J. Lewis-Jones of Panama; stepdaughter, Meghan Lewis-Jones of Nevada; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Gwenda Williams; a stepson, Matthew Lewis Jones; three brothers: Robert, John and twin brother Tom; and two sisters, Maxine and Nancy.
There will be no public visitation. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
