Sara Louise (Shaffer) Dishong, 72, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born Dec. 28, 1943, a daughter of the late Howard and Beryl Shaffer. Sara was a 1961 graduate of Brockway Area High School.
Sara was married to the late Donald Dishong for 48 years. During the course of their marriage, they raised six children and opened their home to 34 foster children. Sara dedicated her life to serving God and caring for those less fortunate. She traveled to Honduras with her husband through the World Gospel Mission where they contributed to rebuilding places of worship and sharing the word of Christ. Her gentle spirit and giving nature made her a natural mother figure for all who knew her. Sara enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending church and working in her yard. She was co-owner and manager of Dishong Carpet Sales for 33 years.
She is survived by her daughter Tammie Bennett and her husband Ken, Falls Creek; son Randy and wife Ann and their daughters, Taylin and Kinsley of Wake Forest, N.C.; son David and wife Carly of Pittsburgh; daughter Esther Deckert and her two children Austin and Taylor of Brookville; daughter Ashley and her son Landon of Falls Creek; and son Marc of Reynoldsville. She is also survived by sisters Mary Margaret Raybuck of Beechwoods and Evelyn Joyce Fleming of Beechwoods.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 206 E. Main Street, Reynoldsville, Pa.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 18, at Roseville Independent Chapel located at 3598 US-322 Brookville, PA 15825 with the Rev. Jim Fillhart officiating.
Memorial donations can be made to the Roseville Independent Chapel Building Fund.
