Stanley M. Verona passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Stan was born in DuBois on Nov. 7, 1954, and was raised in Stump Creek, Pa., by his parents, Stanley and Helen Verona, who preceded him in death.
He was a loving husband and best friend of Molly Verona for 41 years. He was also the father of Hillary Verona (Brandon Carr) of Reynoldsville and Father Adam Verona of Pittsburgh. He was the grandfather of Morgan, Reese and Avery.
He is also survived by his brother, John (Rita) Verona of Urbana, Maryland; his sisters: Mary (Joe) McCluskey of Reynoldsville, Monica (Gary) Lewis of Camp Springs, Md., Maddie (Denny) Cherry of Treasure Lake, Marlys (Rick) Mars, Pa., Margie (Bill) Meenan of Punxsutawney, Liz (Butch) Weber of DuBois.
He was employed at Rola/Jensen in Punxsutawney for 20 years and later became a local businessman/owner of Downtown Beer Distributor for 23 years. He was a member of Saint Mary's Parish and Knights of Columbus #935. He was also a member of the Elks Club, Reynoldsville Eagles and American Legion.
Stan enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. He embraced conversations with his friends on topics anywhere from politics, sports world affairs or weather. He also took a great deal of pride in his garden.
Friends and relatives will be received at the Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 9 from 2-4 p.m., with the Rosary being said at 3:30 and from 6-8 p.m. All are welcomed to attend the funeral mass that will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Reynoldsville at 11 a.m., with his son, Father Adam Verona officiating. Burial will be at the Assumption Cemetery in Sykesville.
During his years of cancer treatment Stan encountered many wonderful and compassionate caregivers, because of this he talked often of a way to "give back" as a form of thanks for the blessings he received during that time. Any memorial contributions may be made to Oncology Hematology Associates of Penn Highlands, DuBois, Hahne Regional Cancer Center or Penn Highlands-DuBois Hospice.
