William Frances "Nug" Nogroski died peacefully surrounded by family at UPMC Altoona Hospital March 24, 2017. He was 82 years old.
Bill was born in Reynoldsville, Pa., May 11, 1934, the son of William J. Nogroski Sr. and Aldine E. (Gunns) Nogroski.
Bill married Emma Jane (Douthit) Nogroski of Reynoldsville in 1957, and they had two daughters, Karen Nogroski of State College and Diane Hager (husband Lou) of Orange, California, and one son, Kevin Nogroski of Addison, Pa. And three grandsons, Andrew Nogroski, and Evan and Benjamin Nogroski; three granddaughters, Cynthia (Ingelido) Mandeville, Staci (Hager) Cristerna (her husband Brian), and Corri Hager; two great-grandsons, Richard Ingelido (and Ivan Lan), and Jackson Cristerna; two great- granddaughters, Elizabeth and Alina Mandeville; and a sister, Shirley (Nogroski) Milliren and her husband Jack.
He is preceded in death by his father William Sr., mother Aldine, and his sister Jean Williams.
He received a bachelor of science degree in business education in 1957 from Pennsylvania State University at the main campus, State College, Pa. He also received post graduate credits at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, Pa., and the University of Pittsburgh, Erie, Pa. He was a 1952 graduate of Reynoldsville-Winslow Senior High School where he was a four year letterman in basketball and football, and also played Legion baseball.
Bill retired from Penn State University in May of 1997. His positions at the university within the corporate controller's office included financial officer for athletic spending, financial analyst/staff assistant, assistant to the director of management and systems engineering. Prior to working at the university Bill worked as the assistant controller/profit planning and financial analysis officer for Central Counties Bank/Melon Bank Central in State College, Pa., divisional senior cost analyst for Talon Division of Textron, Inc., in Meadville, Pa., cost accounting supervisor at PPG Industries, Inc., in Greensburg, Pa., and as a Management Consultant for Brett, Anderson & Burke, and George S. May consulting firm.
Bill was a business education teacher and Junior High Basketball Coach at Lawrence Park High School in Lawrence Park, Pa. He was also a business education teacher at Norwin High School in North Huntingdon, Pa. While a teacher at Norwin High School Bill was the high school golf coach and Junior Achievement advisor. Bill also worked on the Niagara Falls Power Project in payroll while living in Niagara Falls Ontario, Canada.
Bill gave back to his community as well over his long career. His community service includes being a founding member of Good Shepard Catholic Church, Port Matilda, Pa., where he also spent time as a Parish Council member. He was the associate/assistant chair of the Penn State United Way chapter, member of the Lions Club, YMCA, and a member of the Long Range Planning Committee for the Penn-Trafford School District. He was a member of the Penn State Alumni Association (lifetime member), Nittany Lions Club, (of which he was a Penn State season football ticket holder), Bank Administration Institute, National Association of Accountants (local board of directors), and National Management Association. His hobbies included photography, stream fishing, and golf, bowling and participating in basketball.
Friends and family will be received at the Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home in Reynoldsville, Pa., on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Reynoldsville on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. In lieu of flowers, you may donation to your favorite organization in Bill's name.
