William Miles Carlson, 79, of McEwen Run Road, Brockway, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, at Penn Highlands DuBois.
He was born March 22, 1935, at the home of his parents, John and Faye Bloom Carlson, in Elbon.
He was married to Dorothy (Snookie) Lundberg on May 29, 1971. Bill's "Dorothy J" survives and was his devoted caregiver for several years.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a Mason.
He worked as a chemist at Ridgway Color for a number of years. As the co-owner of C&R Trucking with Dave Renwick and later as the owner of Carlson Trucking, he hauled coal for many years throughout western Pennsylvania and New York.
Bill also was the owner of the Carlson Outlet.
He was the President of the Board of Directors of Allegheny Powdered Metallurgy Inc.
As a younger man, Bill was well-known as a baseball pitcher and a saxophone player.
He enjoyed vacationing with friends and in-laws at his camp in Colorado and at the beach with his and Snookie's family and his Lundberg family. Throughout his life, he brought joy to his many friends and brothers-in-law as the most entertaining of story-tellers. His fishing trips to Canada with his brothers-in-law were legendary. He loved people. He loved-and was loved by-his children, grandchildren and all who knew him.
He is also survived by eight children: Richard Heverley (Judy), Randy Heverley (Brenda), Vicki Snedden, Darlene Bortmas (Larry), Lori Sheasley (Ken), Jonah Carlson (Ashleigh), Kim Ezell (Al), and Karen Carlson; four brothers: Jim, Jack, Gary and Danny; and by a sister, Donna Buchert. He is survived by 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Our lives are all diminished by Bill's passing.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Curt Carlson.
Friends will be received from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Lanes Mills United Methodist Church (Bill and Snookie's home church) with the funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Pastor Bob Trask officiating. Burial will be the Wildwood Cemetery in Brockway.
