William John Minns, 84, Sykesville, passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Born Sept. 9, 1929, in DuBois, he was a son of the late William and Nellie Mae Heffner Minns.
He married his first wife, Gertrude Louise Matusky Minns, who preceded him in death Aug. 20, 1984. He then married Cathy Hess Minns, who survives in Sykesville.
William is also survived by three children: Mrs. Douglas (Estelle) Harvey of Maryland, Daniel Minns and wife, Diane, of DuBois, Michael Minns and wife, Mary, of DuBois; three stepchildren: Mrs. Jeffrey (Denise) Buffington of Brockport, Angela Reed Steiner of Monroeville and Dennis Steiner Jr. of Sykesville; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Kenneth (Debora Krenciglova) McKee of Reynoldsville and Betty Hicks of Knox; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
William was the last survivor of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
William retired from the maintenance department at Brockway Glass. He was an aviation machinist in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
William was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed the Pittsburgh Pirates and loved his dogs.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14 and from 9-10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15 at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home in DuBois.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15 at the funeral home with Pastor David Nagele officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
Burial will take place in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church Cemetery in Sykesville.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Leo Nedza Funeral Home in DuBois.
