William "Bill" Perry Dickey, age 63, of Daytona Beach, Fla., formerly of Brookville, Pa., passed away of natural causes on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at his home in Florida.
Bill was born on Feb. 5, 1954, to the late John M. Dickey Jr., and Marjorie (Reitz) Dickey, in Jersey City, N.J.
He graduated from Brookville High School with the class of 1972. He then went on to attend Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio, where he received a bachelor's of business administration and a bachelor's of religion; he graduated from the university in 1977. He began working for Brown, Boveri, & Gould in Orlando, Fla. Eventually he owned and operated the Century Plaza Laundromat and Linen Company, which later became AWMK Enterprises. Most recently he was working for the Mark Travel Corporation.
Bill had a strong faith and he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brookville, Pa.
Many things can be said about Bill, but those who knew him will remember his great sense of humor, and how fiercely loyal he was as a friend. He was a great person to talk with about problems or concerns to which he would always provide helpful and meaningful counsel. He was always generously giving of his time and talents if it could help those around him. His heart was huge and throughout his life he built an inner strength that always made it possible for him to overcome adversity, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. No matter what was going on, Bill would always see the best in people.
Bill was very competitive and always enjoyed playing golf and table tennis. He was an avid sports enthusiast and would decree that whichever team he happened to be rooting for always had a "fighting chance." To his family and many friends, "Captain Jim" left a foot print in their lives that is not easily forgotten. His kind, loving, and supportive nature will always be remembered.
Bill is survived by one sister, Marjorie Dickey McKnight; and two nephews, Justin John Perry McKnight and John D. Huggins. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by the love of his life, Alicia Addington. Alicia's daughter, Savannah Addington, who Bill adored and was very close to, also survives him.
