Wilma Jean Curstead Burns, 85, Johnstown, went to be with her Savior, Wednesday Dec. 31, 2014. She died at her residence.
Born Aug. 17, 1929, in Bowood, Fayette County, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur J. and Leanna G. Forbes Curstead.
She graduated from Georges Twp. High School, Fairchance, in 1947, then attended Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky.
Jean held many part-time jobs caring for the elderly in the various towns in which they lived, while maintaining her home and family. One of her greatest joys was providing many memorable meals for family and friends.
She assisted her husband, the Rev. Richard Burns, as a United Methodist pastor's wife, holding many offices and roles in the six churches they served. Her ministry in these local churches and beyond has touched many lives.
Wilma Jean had a great love of the written word and vocabulary, she especially enjoyed poetry, putting many verses to memory.
She enjoyed God's beauty and lavished love all around her. She lived the example of, "Do everything with love."
Her home and heart were open to all who crossed her path, making God's love available to them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Richard M. Burns, whom she married Aug. 19, 1951, in DuBois; her son, Richard M. Burns Jr., in 1975; and her brother, Bill Curstead.
She leaves these words to her survivors. "God's enfolding love has been with me each day of my earthly life and I am sure He will enfold and comfort those who loved me."
Survivors include her three daughters: Sharon A. Thomas (David) of Hollsopple, Christine R. Zimmerman (Rev. John) of Corry, Bonnie H. Edder (Daniel) of Girard; a son, Rev. Douglas E. Burns (Judy) of North Huntingdon Twp.; daughters by choice, Finney J. Burns and Sandra Burns, both of Dennison, Texas; a sister, Leanna "Ruth" Bonney of Owensville, Ind.; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and beloved nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the Oakland United Methodist Church, 1504 Bedford St., Johnstown, PA 15902. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery, DuBois.
