George Francis "Butch" Smith Sr., 79, of Shortway Drive, Reynoldsville, PA, died on Monday, March 1, 2021.

Born on June 10, 1941 in Erie, PA, he was the son of the late Francis Henry "Pete" Smith and Clara Elizabeth Postlewaite Smith, who survives and lives in Reynoldsville.

Butch was married to Martha Siple and she preceded him in death on December 31, 2006.

Retired, he had been employed at the Benjamin Coal Company. He was a member of the Beechtree Union Church. Butch enjoyed hunting, working on old farming equipment, watching western shows and movies and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, he is also survived by seven children: Sue (Stephanie) Hout of Tennessee; Sherri (B.J.) Gourley of Brockway; Barbara Smith of also of Brockway; Francie (Don) Ziemer of Minnesota; Clara Smith of Brockway; George Smith Jr. and Ryan (Kara) Smith both of Reynoldsville; a brother Henry "Hank" (Karen) Smith also of Reynoldsville. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by two daughters, Tammi Markievich and Rachel Smith; and a granddaughter, Brittany Markievich.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, March 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway.

A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Terry Felt officiating. Burial will be in the Beechwoods Cemetery.
