Rev. Thomas "Tom" H. Current, 91, of New Castle, passed away Friday, July 2, 2021 at Heritage House of New Castle. He was born April 23, 1930, in Muncie, Indiana, a son of the late Charles and Minnie (Duke) Current.
Tom attended Center High School near Blountsville and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, including a year in Korea. He attended the Crossroads Bible College in Farmland at the beginning of his ministry and pastored several churches in central Indiana, most recently the Eastside Community Church in New Castle. He was presently a member of the Blountsville Christian Church and held his ministerial credentials through the Midwest Congregational Fellowship until 2017.
He had worked at Corfine, Inc. in Muncie for 12 years, Ball Brothers in Muncie for 12 years, and was self-employed in trucking for several years. He also worked at Main and Frame Funeral Home for several years, and worked at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service for 17 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Mary B. (Ankrom) Current of New Castle, whom he married December 12, 1953; a daughter, Jan (Eric) Baker of Mooreland; son, Tom Current (Anita McCall Current) of New Castle; five grandchildren, Jason (Janel) Current, Lisa (Matt) Pope, Ryan Current, Jennifer (Dan) Garreth, and Hannah (Jason) Lowe; 16 great grandchildren, Michaela Current, Jacob Current, Ella Howard, Bronson Jones, Cassidy Pope, Corbin (Alison) Pope, Collin Pope, Madison Current, Myla Current, Terrick Guffey, MacKenzie Garreth, Madison Garreth, Nathan Garreth, Morgan Lowe, Maile Lowe, and Makenna Lowe; one sister, Jane (Owen Dale) Matthews; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Charles and Minnie (Duke) Current, he was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Ella Current; three brothers, Carl, Pete and Rex Current; sister, Mary Wade.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors George Hale, Jerry Bowlin and Roy Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the funeral home.
