Nathan Herring Obituary

Nathan Herring, 94, of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2013, after a brief illness.

Nathan was born in Philadelphia in 1919 and moved to Newfield in 1937 and to Vineland in 1959. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in Portland, Maine, where he met his wife of 60 years, Ruth Shepard.

He was employed at Vineland Poultry Laboratories from 1948 until 1978. During his employment with Vineland Poultry Laboratories, he and his family moved to Natanya, Israel, from 1962 to 1964, where he manufactured poultry biologics for Israel's poultry population. In 1978, he moved to Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, where he was director of Poultry Biologic Manufacturing for Biota, N.V., until 1983.

In 1983, Nat and Ruth moved to Hollywood, Fla., where they enjoyed a wonderful retirement until Ruth's death in 2004. Later that year, Nat moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., to be near his son and daughter-in-law.

Nat was a loving father and grandfather with a rare kindness and sense of humor that made him extremely special to everyone who knew him and who will sorely miss him.

Nat was predeceased by his wife, Ruth; his brothers, Joseph Herring and Charles Herring; and his grandson, Seth A. Carlson.

Nat is survived by his son, Lawrence S. Herring (Mary); his daughter, Sharyn S. Carlson (Robert); and his granddaughter, Jennifer A. Carlson of Philadelphia.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday at Beth David Memorial Park in Hollywood, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Wellness Community, 360 East Palm Lane, Phoenix, AZ 85004.

Uncle Nat was one of the sweetest and and most loving persons I have known. His sense of humor was terrific and he loved to make everyone around him laugh. I will miss him dearly.
