Mary Lou (Broadwater) Hannah Obituary
Mary Lou (Broadwater) Hannah

Millville - Mary Lou (Broadwater) Hannah, age 75, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday evening, September 8, 2018. She had been declining in health over the last few years and moved from Millville, NJ to Delaware in April 2018 to live with family.

Born in Millville to the late David Clarence and Virginia (Connor) Broadwater, Mary Lou graduated from Millville High School, Class of 1961. She received her Associates Degree from Cumberland County College, finishing on the Presidents List, holding an honorary membership of Phi Theta Kappa and was listed on Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges in 1978 and 1979.

Mary Lou worked for the Cumberland County Board of Social Services for 34 years, many of those years in the Nursing Home Medicaid Unit, until her retirement in 1999.

Mary Lou married LV Hannah in 2008. They shared three wonderful years of travel, music, love, and laughter together until LV's passing in September of 2011.

Mary Lou was an amazing musician playing the piano, accordion and organ. Many have enjoyed her enthusiastic renditions of classic hymns and other songs on the organ which seemed as if lifting off the floor from her energy.

Driving was truly one of Mary Lou's favorite pastimes, whether it was in our local rural areas or around the United States. She loved any outdoor activities, and was especially fond of walking, swimming, and boating. She also was a huge fan of the seashore, the backwaters, marshes, and bay areas.

She had a passion for writing. Mary Lou wrote one novel, one self-help daily devotional, and many other stories and poems. She wrote and published a newsletter for five years, with a format intended to serve as an avenue of expression for other talented people to also write for an audience of a few hundred people.

Mary Lou was raised in Millville First Assembly of God. She served in congregations of the Church of God from 1962 to 1979, holding a Licensed Exhorter's Certificate, and co-pastoring and then pastoring Salem Church of God from 1969 through 1973. She received Ministerial Ordination through Calvary Cathedral, serving as a Bible Teacher and Minister of Music until returning home to Millville First Assembly of God in 1998, serving as pianist and Bible teacher.

Mary Lou's thrust of life was to walk in the Holy Spirit fulfilling His calling in service to Jesus Christ and to anyone whom she came in contact.

Mary Lou is survived by many dear extended family members and friends who loved her very much and will miss her Bible knowledge, quick wit and laughter. Mary Lou will be missed most for her joyful spirit that filled a room. One couldn't meet Mary Lou without being drawn to her pure heart and genuine love for all of God's gifts.

She was predeceased by her husband LV Hannah; sister Jane Peterson-Cooley; and one brother David C. Broadwater.

Funeral Services for Mary Lou will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad Street, Millville. Family and friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville.
