Dr. Rand E. McNitt

Dr. Rand E. McNitt, 72 of Coldwater passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at his home.
In following Rand's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal services are planned. Cremation services have been provided by Dutcher Funeral Home of Coldwater.
Rand was born in Coldwater to Carman and Edna (Russell) McNitt. He was an extremely intelligent man, earning his PHD.
Rand was a Professor of Botany at the University of North Carolina @ Chapel Hill. He later used the carpentry skills he learned from his father to build homes and custom furniture including looms and spinning wheels. He was a self-proclaimed peripatetic drywaller.
He was a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Millwrights. He enjoyed hunting for unusual fungi, feeding the birds, shooting woodchucks and eradicating purple loosestrife.
He loved politics, football and the Detroit Tigers, always with his own commentary or advice for the coaches, players and politicians.
He was proud to live on the family sesquicentennial farm, the founding date which he knew by heart, unlike his wedding anniversary. He was a good man, kind to stray cats and will be missed by all who knew him.
Rand is survived by his wife of almost 27 years, Linda McNitt of Coldwater; his sister Janadine (Russell) Whitaker of Coldwater; his niece Kim McClelland and his nephew Kirt (JoAnne) Eberts.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carman and Edna McNitt.
Memorials may be directed to the Branch County Humane Society.
