Glora "Jean" Johnson Obituary
Glora (Jean) Johnson, 90, of Girard Township, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Redmond officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Girard Township. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 4 – 8 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with the Rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m.
Jean was born August 11, 1928 to Kenneth Richard and Geneva Leona (Stahowiak) Langstaff at the family homestead in Girard Township. She wasa 1946 graduate of Coldwater High School. Jean married Thomas J. Johnson on October 1, 1953 in Coldwater and he preceded her in death on June 14, 1993.
While homemaking was Jean's true calling, she also helped out on the family farm, taught music for years at one room school houses in the Coldwater area and taught piano and accordion lessons out of her home. She was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Jean had performed musically for veterans at Ft. Custer and Percy Jones Hospital in Battle Creek for many years. She volunteered as a room mother, Campfire leader and for the American Cancer Society.
Jean enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables, crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles, dancing, going to sporting events and being the caretaker for her parents.
She is survived by her children; Candy (Kevin) Cox of Quincy and Mary Jo (Wayne) Bellinger of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, her two furry Yorkie grand dogs and many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas and her brother John Langstaff.
