Rupert Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 14, 2006.
Rupert Charles Davis Jr., 69, of Holmesville, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at home surrounded by his family.
Born June 2, 1937, in Cooperstown, he was the son of the late Rupert C. and Ruth H. Beebe Davis.
Rupert married Halys E. Houck on July 25, 1959, who survives.
He spent most of his childhood in New Berlin and the Otego area. He graduated from New Berlin High School in 1956.
Rupert was a manufacturing engineer and started his career at GLA, Norwich, and was with the company for 34 years when he went to work for Electron Coil, Norwich, where he worked until his retirement.
He was a member of the Holmesville Baptist Church where he had been a deacon, treasurer, and junior high school Sunday School teacher. He was also very active with various other jobs and programs. He had been a Town of New Berlin Councilman, and at the time of his death was serving as fire commissioner for South New Berlin.
Rupert was also a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1960 to 1962.
He loved his Lord and his best friend and wife, Halys. He loved spending time with all of his family, and with each additional grandchild and great-grandchild, he was more in awe of God's great creation.
Rupert enjoyed the outdoors, working in his garden, mowing his lawn, and working on various household projects where he was accompanied by his dog, Brutus. His backyard was often filled with the laughter of children as he played kickball, softball, soccer, and many other games with them. More often than not, the neighbor children and friends of his children and grandchildren were also there.
He was a friend to many, always willing to lend a hand whenever there was a need. Sometimes it was helping with frozen pipes, a broken furnace, brakes, or the occasional ride. He always had a kind word and had a wry sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, Halys, Rupert is survived by his children, Karen and Nick McKie of South New Berlin, Kim and Steve Voorhis of South New Berlin, Scott and Lisa Davis of Nazareth, Pa., Julie and Don Hunt of South New Berlin, Brent and Dawn Davis of Norwich; grandchildren, Michael and Katie McKie, Michelle McKie and Lance Thompson, Kyle Hunt and Nicole Bodie, Stacy Hunt, Justin Hunt, Ashley Davis, Ryan Voorhis, Andrew Hunt, Kirsten Davis, Eric Voorhis, Tiffany Davis, Amanda Davis, Noah Davis, and Emily Davis; sisters, Alice Southwich of New Berlin, Arlene and Sanford Jones of New Berlin, Lorraine Lindsay of Amherst; a sister-in-law, Gladys Davis of Ingleside, Ill.; and his father-in-law, Hubert Houk of Burlington Flats.
He was predeceased by a son, Christopher, brother, Arthur Davis, sister, Shirley Davis, and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Houk of New Berlin.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Holmesville Baptist Church, South New Berlin. The officiating ministers will be the Rev. Romeyn Kipp and Rupert's son, the Rev. Scott Davis.
Friends may call Friday at Holmesville Baptist Church from 7 to 9 p.m.

As each day passes may your hearts be lighter and may all the precious memories flood your hearts and minds with smiles of the times you shared with your husband, father, grandfather, friend.
May the great witness of the testimony of God's love he left with us all to pass on the Good News be our desire to press on in winning our unsaved family and friends to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Our love and prayers to you all.

To the Davis Family:

My dad and I want to express to you our sympathy in the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. Praise the Lord is with Jesus! We have experienced the physical loss you are feeling now and wanted you to know you are in our prayers. Be comforted by this: Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
