Harold Aitken Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 14, 2007.
DELHI _ Long-time Delhi resident, Harold W. Aitken, 75, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at his residence in Stamford.
He was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Delhi, the son of Harold S. and Margaret (Veen) Aitken. He married Linda Porath on Jan. 20, 1963, in Great Bend, Pa.
A lifelong area resident, Mr. Aitken was a 1951 graduate of Delaware Academy in Delhi. He was employed by R.H. Lewis & Son, Delhi, for 25 years as service manager, retiring in 1984. Shortly after his retirement, he began driving a school bus for Delaware Academy, leaving after 20 years of service in 2005.
Mr. Aitken was an honorary member of the Delhi Fire Department. He also enjoyed membership in the Sidney Elks Club. He enjoyed league bowling both in Oneonta and Delhi. An avid hunter, he collected Remington firearms. He could be seen "antiquing" from time to time, but he especially loved camping and spending time with his wonderful family.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda, at home; a son, Robert, and Vicki Aitken of Rowley, Mass.; daughter, Vicki, and Steve Goodyear of Clifton Park; son, Thomas, and Linda Aitken of Delhi, son, Donald, and Sherry Aitken of Meridale; and a daughter, Margie, and Kevin Heannings of East Meredith; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard, and Bonnie Aitken of Meridale; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Steven Aitken, in 1993 and a brother, Robert Aitken, in 1996.
Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with the Rev. Bert More officiating.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place in the spring in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi, at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.
Arrangements are by the MacArthur Funeral Home of Delhi.
