Roger Heap Obituary

Lyme - Roger B. Heap of Hamburg Cove, Lyme died Jan. 3, 2021. Born in Boston, Mass. to Col. Roger A B and Eirene (O'Neil) Heap, he grew up in Longmeadow, Mass. and attended Tech High School in Springfield, Mass. where he also worked at the Indian Motorcycle headquarters before joining the Army Air Corp in 1944 during World War II.

After High School he moved to Lyme where he purchased and operated the Gordon Hall Manufacturing Company in Old Lyme for ten years before taking a job as North East Regional Representative for the John A. Bailey & Associates Company. He met and married Virginia "Ginny" Potter in 1960, they lived in Old Saybrook and Essex. He later married Lois Burr-Thompson of Clinton in 1991 and they made their home at Hamburg Cove where he lived until relocating a year ago to the good care at The Saybrook at Haddam for which the family is most appreciative.

He is predeceased by his first wife Virginia (Potter) Heap in Old Saybrook, and his second wife Lois (Burr-Thompson) Heap of Clinton whose four children he delighted in. He is survived by a sister seven years his senior, Pamela (Heap) Rich of Longmeadow, Mass.; and her surviving daughters, his nieces, Cynthia (Rich) Wilson (Thomas) of East Longmeadow, Mass. and Susan (Rich) Flynn of Killingworth; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Roger maintained a passion throughout his life for cars, boats, and for flying and he had operational licenses for all types. His greatest joy though, was for life itself, for love and happiness. He reminded us often that "Happiness is a choice", he thrives on gratitude, marveled at his good fortunes and he truly appreciated his family and many friends. He asked that we wish a "Happy Forever" to all and that we remember him that way.

Private arrangements will be at the convenience of the family. Remembrance donations may be made to the Lymes Senior Center, 26 Town Woods Road, Old Lyme, CT 06371 or Lyme Ambulance, PO Box 911, Hadlyme, CT 06439.

Roger was our next door neighbor. One could not ask for a better person to be your neighbor. Fun, loving and supportive to me in difficult times.
Rest In Peace Dear Roger.
Love, Sharon

Roger was a kind man, a true gentleman. It was always a pleasure to see him outside his home on Cove Rd—often caring for his spotless car—and stop for a chat. Rest In Peace, friend.
