Walter Arnold Obituary

Groton - Walter P. Arnold Sr., 76, passed away Feb. 6, 2021, due to COVID-19 complications. He was born Dec. 4, 1944, in New London, the son of Raymond P. Arnold and Ernestine (Bogue) Arnold of Noank.

Walter was a graduate of Fitch High School, Class of 1963. He was married to Patricia (Darrow) Arnold with whom he shared 38 years of life, raising four children together. He retired from Pfizer, Inc. after 38 years of dedication as a maintenance clerk.

He is remembered fondly as "Wally" to many friends with whom he joked and shared years of laughter with.

He loved spending time with his family; cheering for his grandchildren at their various sporting events, had a love for music and enjoying the outdoors; hunting, fishing and gardening. He found joy baking with his grandchildren, cooking, and was best known for his amazing clam chowder which he shared at gatherings with family and friends over the years.

His laugh, joking nature, "Donald Duck" birthday wishes, big hugs and genuine smile will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by his first wife Patricia (Darrow) Arnold of Griswold and their children, Walter P. Arnold Jr. and daughter-in-law Lisa of Corsicana, Texas, David Arnold and daughter-in-law Kim of Groton, Melissa (Arnold) Epstein and son-in-law Douglas of Preston, Robin Arnold of Groton; fifteen grandchildren, two of whom are serving in the U.S. Airforce; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews along with extended family and former wife; Carole Burdick of Ledyard.

He is predeceased by his first-born son Kevin W. Arnold; his parents; brothers, Raymond and Edward; and sister Ernestine.

Arrangements are being handled by Dinoto funeral home in Mystic. A private burial and service for family will take place at a later date.

I am very sad to learn of Wally's passing. I worked with him for several years in the Eastern Area Maintenance shop at Pfizer. A great guy and knowledgeable co worker. Always a smile, a joke or a laugh to make your day. He remembered many Pfizer workers birthdays, and made sure to call them in his famous Donald Duck voice to wish them well. He also was a bit of a prankster, but always got you in a "nice" way! Wally was just one of those iconic Pfizer family members that made working there just a bit more enjoyable. My deepest condolences to Wally's family.
He really loved his children!
Rest well old friend, the duck has left the building....

I'll always remember Walt as a sweet, soft spoken, happy guy. I have fond memories of him bouncing his granddaughter Renee on his knee and talking to her with his Donald Duck voice. RIP Walt, you been through so much medically but never complained. You and your family are in my thoughts.
