Al Severinsen Obituary

Mystic - Al Severinsen, 70, of Mystic, husband of 50 years to Jane (Soller) Severinsen, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1944, he attended Baldwin High School in Baldwin, N.Y. and was Class of 1962. Following high school, Al enrolled at Wagner University. While enrolled in college, Al was offered a professional baseball contract with the Chicago Cubs Major League baseball organization. He eventually went on to play for the Baltimore Orioles in 1969, in which the team participated in the baseball World Series that current year.

After his professional baseball career ended with the San Diego Padres in 1971, Al stayed active in teaching the game he loved by coaching players from all ages from youth level to college. Al also continued to be involved in teaching baseball at clinics through the Major Baseball League Association.

Al retired from Nassau County in 2003 as a plant supervisor. Al continued his work history of 11 years at Foxwoods as a warehouse manager. Al has lived in Mystic since 2003.

Al is survived by his wife/best friend and high school sweetheart, Jane. He leaves behind three children; seven grandchildren; and other beloved family members. Al enjoyed spending his free time with his wife, kids, and grandchildren.

Dear Janie,
when I think of Al, I visualize that sweet smile he had. Always thought you two were the cutest couple. Remember going to the house you and Al
rented on Thomas Avenue. My prayers are with you Jane.

Hi Jane,
I just recently heard about Al. He was such a nice guy. He helped me with a financial issue I had with the San Diego Padres.

Jane & Family,
I was shocked to hear about Al. My deepest sympathy go out to your entire family. I played baseball at Baldwin High School a few years after Al, with his brother Gary. His Dad & mine formed the Connie Mack team & added a team from the Baldwin area. He was a great guy to be around and an inspiration to the younger players in the town. He definitely will be sorely missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.

And of course the day he came in to Beth's class for career day. The kids and the teachers just loved him. He was so generous in sharing his World Series experience.
