Sara Lenhart Obituary

Chester - Sara Sibley Lenhart, of Chester, formerly of Lyme, passed away peacefully Feb. 11, 2021, surrounded by her three children. She was born Feb. 28, 1936, in Braintree, Mass., to Arthur and Helen (Avery) Sibley.

She graduated from Wheelock College in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education and she taught second grade at Greenwich Country Day School.

Sara married Mark McKown Lenhart in 1958 and devoted her life to raising their three children. She was an avid reader, knitter, and quilter, and she volunteered for the League of Women Voters and the Girl Scouts. After their children were grown, Sara worked part-time at local organizations, including the Mt. Saint John School and Essex Meadows. Following Mark's retirement from Stone & Webster Engineering Corp., Sara and Mark had fun traveling to their Wheelock and USNA class reunions, visiting their children and grandchildren, and walking on their favorite beach at the Chatham Lighthouse.

Sara is predeceased by her husband, Mark, who died in 2018, and is survived by her children, Alice, Avery, and Mark Sibley Lenhart. Sara is also survived by seven grandchildren; her brother, Arthur Sibley; and her sister, Laura Rhodes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum, or the charity of your choice. A private memorial service will be held later in the spring.

So sorry to kearn of Sara´s passing. The Lenharts, VanLandinghams and Ellises were in Sub school together and remained friends over the years. My husband Hal was USNA class of 56. Not sure of Van´s class year. Jan died just a few days after Sara so imagine they are enjoying being reunited! We all had made some wonderful memories together! My deepest sympathy to the family!
