James David (Jim) John died peacefully at home in Indian Wells, Calif. on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. He was born in Pittsburg, Texas on December 9, 1944 to James David Sawrie and Marilyn Imogene Davis. Jim attended East Texas State College, Commerce, Texas and California State University Long Beach where he majored in Culinary Science. He supervised preparation of meals and managed various restaurants throughout his career as well as presenting splendid meals for friends and guest in his and his partner's home. Jim's life travels took him to Cairo, Egypt for eighteen months, Washington, DC, Dallas, Texas and Los Angeles before retiring to Indian Wells in 2006. Jim is survived by his partner of forty years, Bruce McClelland; and his step-brother, William John of Farmer Branch, Texas. Jim was a proud and devoted member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Palm Desert, holding many lay positions and was a member of the Vergers' Guild of the Episcopal Church. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church 47-535 Highway 74 (at Haystack) Palm Desert, CA on Saturday June 19, 2010 at 10:00AM. Inurnment will follow in the church's columbarium. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Margaret's Episcopal Church (Worship Commission).
