Palm Springs - Raymond Sidney Carl was born in Long Beach, CA on January 12, 1925 and died peacefully at his home in Palm Springs, CA, Thursday March 8, 2019.

Ray graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach and lived locally until he retired in 1996.

Ray served in the U.S. Coast Guard in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon his return, he joined his parents, Maurice and Esther Carl, sisters and brother's-in-law, Isabel and Baron Lane and Peggy and Larry Evans in operating his family furniture business, Carl's Furniture, a Long Beach institution for over 80 years.

During his early adult years, Ray took pride in community involvement. He was a member of several Jewish organizations and participated in selected leadership roles in the Jewish Community Center.

Ray loved playing golf at Sunrise Country Club with his mother-in-law, Marylou Canaday and traveling with Mardi, Marylou, and his father-in-law, Bob Canaday.

Above all, Ray was a humble, caring, and common sense man who set a fantastic example for his children and anyone who knew him.

He will be missed.

Ray is survived by his loving and caring wife, Mardi, who was by his side until his passing. He is also survived by his children, Wendi, Kathy and Tom, along with their supportive spouses, Bob, Gary, and Shelley.

Ray also leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and Mardi's children, Trace and Marylou and Mardi's brother, Bob Canaday.
