Palm Desert - Althea Ululani Black, age 81, passed away at her home in Palm Desert surrounded by her beloved family on July 21, 2018 after a long illness. She was born February 3, 1937 in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. After graduating high school she enlisted in the US Air Force, serving at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California.

After Althea's military service, she settled in Indio to raise her family. Althea enjoyed a successful career at College of the Desert for over 25 years.

Althea was an amazing cook and loved cooking for her family. She enjoyed country western dancing, exercising, yoga, gardening, needlepoint, music, shopping but most of all spending time with her family.

Althea is survived by her companion, Roger Bell, her daughters, Debbie Akers and Sandi Howk, her son, Michael Black, son-in-law, Todd Howk, daughter-in-law, Loni Black, granddaughters Christen, Morgan and Devon, grandsons, Drew and Dylan and great grandchildren Carson and Sloane.

Althea leaves wonderful memories of love and laughter as well as cherished lessons to all whose lives she touched. She will be lovingly remembered and missed forever.

All who knew and loved Althea are invited to a Celebration of Life at the Palm Desert Country Club, 77200 California Drive, Palm Desert, CA 92211 on Saturday September 8th at 1:00pm.
