Victoria Cameron Obituary

Victoria Cameron

- - November 22, 1948 - October 23, 2018

On October 23rd, Riverside County Superior Court Judge, Victoria Cameron died peacefully after a 16 year battle with ovarian cancer. Her family was by her side.

Victoria was born in Washington D.C. where her father, Vic Daumit was a well known dancer. Her mother Betty was also a dance teacher who eventually became a stay-at-home mother. Victoria had two sisters, and a brother. The family remained in the D.C./Maryland area throughout her childhood. In 1993, Victoria and her husband, Dr. Ronald Cameron moved to Palm Desert, CA.

Once settled, Victoria began attending California Western School of Law in San Diego. She completed the three year course in only two years. Soon after, Victoria was hired as prosecutor, first for the County of San Bernardino, then for Riverside County.

Victoria excelled as a prosecutor, receiving numerous awards and accolades. In 2007, she was named Felony Prosecutor of the Year. Her assignments included sexual assault and child abuse, homicides, gangs and death penalty cases.

In 2010, her ultimate goal was reached when Governor Schwarzenegger appointed Victoria a Superior Court Judge. Judge Cameron served the people of Riverside County in the Indio Courts presiding over criminal cases until very recently.

Judge Cameron was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ronald Cameron. She is survived by her children Robert Cameron and Tara Elizabeth (Liz) Brandt; her grandchildren Jacqui, Nathan, Ella, Isley and Marcus and her siblings, Kathy Babbis, Barry Daumit and Denise Puricelli.

A memorial service will be held in her memory on November 17th at 11:00am at St. Garabed Armenian Apostolic Church of the Desert at 38905 Monterey Ave. Rancho Mirage, CA 92270. Victoria had requested that attendees not wear mourning attire. This will be a "celebration of life". Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org/give).

Not sure what to say?

Just learning this sad news too after thinking of Vicky today. We became acquainted at my first job in Wheaton, MD. I was among the youngest employees & Vicky was very kind to me. I knew her initially as Miss Pearson & looked up to her. Later I babysat her beautiful children, "Robby and Lizzie" -- great kids. This was in Howard county, MD. It's heartening, yet not surprising, to read of Vicky's tremendous success in California. She & Dr Cameron were wonderful people. I pray for peace for the family.

I just learned of Judge Cameron's passing and am heartbroken. Vicky was a dear friend to me and a huge role model. As a young reporter in Palm Springs, I got to know then Deputy DA Cameron from covering high profile court cases. I was in awe of her skill, smarts and spirit. Vicky rivaled Super Woman as she gracefully juggled so many different challenges from the courtroom to taking care of the beloved Dr. Cameron as he battled his own health challenges.

Despite a non-stop schedule, she always made time for others and made a point of keeping in touch. Her oversized heart and overwhelming kindness will be sorely missed, as will her innate and adept legal skills. She had such an incredible career while still balancing family and friends. Rest in Peace Vicky. I still think of you often, and I'm so sorry I didn't get a chance to say goodbye.

We are so sad to hear of Vicky's passing. Her Christmas card was always the first one we'd receive, but we knew something was amiss when we didn't get one. She was so kind to us and we enjoyed having Ron and Vicky at our holiday gatherings. She was such a fighter with her illness. God be with them.

Vicky will always be remembered in my heart. She was a fabulous judge and a joy to serve with on the bench. She fought a long and brave battle with cancer but remained upbeat throughout this and every other challenge in her life. Vicky always was kind and generous with her time and her assistance to others. Our comfort is that she is reunited in heaven with her beloved Ron.
