From the time I first heard her name in 1964, through high school and college, during her career as a nurse at UIHC and in later life with her dear husband Tom in Iowa City, I thought of Kathy Sandstrom Wegman as one of my most treasured friends. Someone I would always be able to talk to about anything. Her sly, intelligent humor and sensitive throaty voice still echo in my memory. She is gone all too soon! My deepest heartfelt condolences to all of Kathy's family and many friends.

Kathy was a very close friend, and significant influence on my life in Iowa. We first met in 1966 when I was dating her younger sister Barbara. Kathy took a genuine, loving and helping interest in the success of that young relationship. Herself an artist, Kathy also took an interest in my own art work. She posed in my studio for portraits and figure studies which I needed for my admitting portfolio at The Kansas City Art Institute, and which were exhibited at the Cedar Rapids Art Center. Kathy and I both worked for The University Of Iowa Hospitals during her long career there as a nurse, and I spoke with her often as she went about her duties. This is a difficult and untimely loss to accept. I will miss Kathy greatly!
