Just now reading the Sat Star and saw a face that jumped out at me only to see Mrs Given. My condolences Janet and Murray, to you and all the family.
What an interesting and fulfilling life she had. Always hard to say goodbye but wonderful memories will linger.

Marion Given was a remarkable woman. Knox Waterloo also experienced her as an “admirable woman who faced life's hardships with grace, fortitude, and stoicism.” She was ordained an Elder at a time when many churches did not have women Elders. She served in this role with great faithfulness and wisdom and was involved in many other groups at Knox where her creativity, and positive spirit were admired by many. She was indeed someone who was visionary and pragmatic putting her faith into practice in so many ways. In particular I remember a very poignant conversation with Marion at her home when a young girl (age 9) was killed in a boating accident. Marion was helpful to me, showed great compassion and empathy for the grieving family, shared stories of grief from her life, and donated towards the funeral reception. Those of us who knew Marion give God thanks for her long life, the gifts of mind and spirit and personality that were uniquely hers and send our deepest sympathy to Bruce and Janet and the whole family.

I taught with Marion and she was a wonderful friendly teacher. My grandmother was a Given so we were related as well. My condolences to her children and grandchildren.
