George TINTOR Obituary

GEORGE TINTOR May 6, 1957 - May 30, 2021 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Tintor at 64 years of age on May 30, 2021. George was born in Toronto on May 6, 1957 into a hardworking and loving Serbian immigrant family who instilled in him the fundamental values which influenced his life. Values and lessons of hard work, honesty, ruthless integrity and an ability to face adversity and challenges with calm, stoic bravery. He took those lessons to heart, striving for achievement in both his professional and personal life. George completed his undergraduate degree in Finance at the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA at Columbia University in New York. Whilst at Penn, he was a member of the Penn men's rowing team who dominated the Ivy League under the leadership of legendary Penn coach Ted Nash in the late 1970s. During his first year at Penn, George took leave following an invitation to join the tryouts for Canada's men's rowing team for the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. He succeeded and was a proud member of our country's Olympic delegation in Montreal that year and continued as a Canadian National Team member up to the international boycott of the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980. Following his rowing career, George enjoyed a successful career in investment banking beginning in New York and then in London and Zurich, the latter city where he raised his three daughters. George also continued as an active member and supporter of the Argonaut Rowing Club in Toronto where he provided inspired leadership to many young men and women and was always proud to wear the double blue colours of that storied club. George is survived by his daughters Diana (Timo), Marina and Anushka and one grandson Lars. He is predeceased by his mother Ankica and leaves his father Petar, brother Nick (Marilyn) and many nieces, nephews, kumovi and relatives in Canada and Serbia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in George's memory be made to All Serbian Saints Orthodox Church at 2520 Dixie Road, Mississauga, Ontario, LY4 2A5 or directly via their website at: www.sabornik.com. Alternatively, to the Argonaut Rowing Club at 1225 Lake Shore Blvd West, Toronto, Ontario, M6K 1C1 or http://www.argonautrowingclub.com/fundraising/ As a result of strict COVID regulations, a private family funeral will be held on Friday, June 4 at All Serbian Saints Orthodox Church in Mississauga, Ontario. Burial will be at a later date in Zurich, Switzerland.

So sad to know George has passed, I worked for George on his house in Zurich. He was an engaging, kind and wonderful man to work for and I still remember the great conversations we had, with his stories about his life. I still have the lovely ceremonial masons mallet he gifted me, something he saw in an antique shop and thought I would appreciate it. I did and still do. My love and blessings go to his family. Rest in peace George.

Anytime I was with George, it was memorable for how much he enjoyed the company of friends and acquaintances. I will not be able to go to Lucerne without enjoying my memories of George, truly a wonderful man.

I remember George from high school, Parkdale Collegiate Institute, in Toronto.

We were not in the same grade, but I remember being struck by how friendly he was to his classmates.

A very decent guy.

Sincere condolences to brother Nick -- and, the rest of the family.

Very saddened to hear of George’s passing. I was good friends with his brother Nick when we attended Howard PS, and then connected with George during university rowing and more recently at the Argo Club where my son Dane rowed for a number of summers and George rowed his single with a vengeance. Extraordinary family man, great athlete and successful in his calling....a role model and inspiration to all of us...and who will never be forgotten.

I am very sad to hear this news. George and I met at Price Waterhouse in 1980 and became steadfast friends almost immediately. We often went several years without seeing each other but whenever we met up it was as if we had just seen each other yesterday. One of my fondest memories is of George calling me up in late winter of 2006 saying he had just snagged two tickets to a charity Rolling Stones concert at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. We were both diehard Stones fans. I flew down and we had a once in a lifetime experience seeing the Stones in a relatively intimate setting. Since his return to Toronto we attended many Raptors games together. One of George's great loves was chasing down specialty mangoes from Pakistan and India which are only seasonally available. He knew more about mangoes than any human really should. I will miss him dearly.

I am in complete shock. George you were a gentle giant, an incredible athlete and a great friend and left us much much too soon. You will be sadly missed.

To family Tintor,

Please receive our sincere condolences for your loss. We will remember George (Djordje) as a very accomplished hard working man who always had time for all his friends and family and made us all proud of who he became professionally and personally. He was a genuinely a good person and this world lost a remarkable human being. Hope George will find his peace in heaven and meets his mother who was so proud of him. Rest in peace George and thank you for all your kindness.
