Astrid JAYSON Obituary
ASTRID JAYSON
With great sadness, we
announce that Astrid Jayson
(nee Wimmer) born 1929 in
Brünn, Czech Republic to an
Austrian family of old lineage,
passed away at Sunset Manor,
Collingwood, Ontario July 12,
2016. Astrid was born to Georg
and Valerie Wimmer. Her
maternal family lived in Brünn
for many generations and
owned one of the largest
foundries in the city. After the
company was nationalized and
they were left with nothing, they
were expelled as were others,
out of the country. Astrid and
her mother then trekked to
Austria on foot, living in many
places before settling in
Salzburg. They decided to
emigrate to Canada to start a
new life in the early 1950's,
arriving in Toronto. Here she
met her future husband Paul
(deceased February 2016), and
they had two daughters. Astrid's
love for skiing started in Austria
and continued when the family
joined Alpine Ski Club in
Collingwood, where Paul and the
children took up skiing in the
1960's. Holidays and weekends
were spent there until they
moved there full time a few
years ago. Missing her greatly
are her children, Ingrid Taylor
(Doug), Doris Jayson (Cam Duff),
grandchildren, Krissi Taylor,
Lauren Taylor, Graeme,
Katherine and Jacqueline Duff
and great-granddaughter, Elsy
Macleod and relatives in Austria
Many thanks to the staff at
Sunset Manor who treated our
mother with dignity and
compassion. A remembrance
and interment will be held
Saturday September 24 at 1:30
p.m. at the Presbyterian
Cemetery on Poplar Side Road,
Collingwood, Ontario. Donations
in Astrid's memory can be made
to The Alzheimer Society
Arrangements entrusted to
Fawcett Funeral Home -
Collingwood.
