Christopher LANG Obituary

CHRISTOPHER HOWARD LANG The Chairman has left the building. Christopher Howard Lang (CH, Howard, the Chief, Dad, Papa) always said 'actions speak louder than words', which explains the tremendous impact his actions had on the global LANG Family and all those with whom he interacted. A fierce competitor on the football field, squash and tennis courts, and in any endeavour he undertook, Chris balanced his drive with his devotion to the Church and many charities that were important to those around him. His legendary lists - illegible to many - started every day before the crack of dawn and helped ensure he could keep track of the millions of ideas and 'to do's' bouncing around his always active mind. Then there were the books. Incredibly well read, Chris used books as a way to teach, to expand thought, and to keep him at the front edge of innovation as he reimagined the future of sport and sponsorship and ushered in new eras of marketing well ahead of their time. A wonderful reunion is underway with Howard and Helen, Chris' parents, along with his predeceased siblings David and Jenny, and the 15 golden retrievers that played a central role in his life. Michael and Martha, along with Chris' four children, Brian, Susie, Debbie, Shauna and their families celebrate Chris' unconditional love and his indelible legacy. This past year Chris has continually shared that his beloved wife, Joanne, has been his guiding Light for 50 years- his family's love for him is eternal. Papa's greatest act may have been that as a grandfather of 10. From the beach at Goose Rocks to the golf course, from the hockey arena to the gymnasium, Chris supported all his grandchildren in their endeavours. With his hilarious sense of humour he poked and prodded them to get involved, have fun, challenge boundaries, and to not take life too seriously. His grandchildren's lives have been made richer in his company. In the end, those who knew him were all a part of his company, all LANGsters. Chris was always open to give advice and counsel. He had old school grace and class. Lots of lessons from him. His business career is one of a pioneer. Hope his legacy and what he believed will never be forgotten. His kids who I know (Debbie and Brian) are great examples.

My deepest condolences to the Lang family on the passing of Chris. You are in my thoughts & prayers. Chris was a friend and mentor in so many ways to so many people. As a former employee early on in my career, it's very difficult to put into words the impact that Chris and his company's community had on my life personally and professionally. I am forever grateful and proud to have worked for not only a visionary but a genuine gentleman who put people's lives first always. God bless.

My deepest condolences to the Lang family, we lost a Great Man. Chris would always take the time to meet and listen to anyone with an idea. I still remember the day I called him about the Vatican Conference on Faith & Sports it seemed like yesterday... He took the time to meet with Stefano and me at his favorite spot "Richtree" located at Bayview and York Mills to discuss the Idea. He couldn't believe what I was requesting for us to collaborate together to make this Conference happened so he invited Malu to join us for the meeting and requested we travel to Italy together to validate our discussions. We made history after that by creating the first ever Global Conference of Faith & Sport held at the Vatican. Chris was a great innovator and his accomplishments are way too many to list. When he called me a friend it was very moving and I have felt proud knowing him and being a part of his life for the period we spent together. I will miss him very much. May God accept him into his Kingdom in Heaven he certainly belongs there. I will cherish the memories that we had together. Your Friend Jonathan

Chris will forever occupy a place in my heart for the love and kindness he extended to my dad and mum, John and Yvonne Grant. He was not only a respectful and caring nephew (John was a loving and loved younger brother of Chris' mum, Helen Grant Lang), he was a special older cousin to me, my sister Mary Ann and brother Steven. Our family will always treasure Chris' eloquent tribute to dad at his funeral.
To Joanne and Family, we send our love. Be assured that Chris' spirit will remain with us.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Chris at University. He was an athlete, fraternity brother and a leader. We parted after graduation but reconnected over the years at various places in Canada and elsewhere. Our common interest was sport -- more particularly Canadian sport and athletes. We both believed in the cultural value of all sport.
Occasionally we resided in the same city. At other times we came together on projects to enhance opportunities for Canadian teams and athletes. Often we met by surprise at events; Olympic Games, World Championships or a rink, a court a golf course or a stadium in or some other a far flung venue. We immediately reconnected because of that common cause.
Sport makes for strong bonds - Chris was a leader, a man of character in a field often more competitive than principled. He was perspicacious and astute advisory and mentor too many and a valued friend to those whose lives he touched. A true Canadian gentleman, family man and the best iteration of a Canadian sportsman.

Chris was a phenomenal uncle and godfather. We would get together whenever he was in town and they, along with the many times my mom Jenny and I spent visiting Toronto, are memories I hold close to my heart.

His pizza delivery joke , which is can still hear him say in a funny voice, when answering the phone will be missed.

It is never easy to say goodbye but, I am happy to know he is well in heaven.

Rest well Uncle Chris, we love and miss you. Xo Christine
