David McCALDEN Obituary

DAVID WILLIAM MCCALDEN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David William McCalden on October 29, 2021, at the age of 90. David will be greatly missed by his loving children, Richard (Caroline), Douglas and Suzanne and his adoring wife, Marie. He was deeply loved by his grandchildren, Isabel, Victoria, Charlotte, Alexandra and Connor. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth; his first wife, Evelyn; and his ever-mourned son, Gordon. David was born on April 5, 1931, in Toronto where he spent his entire life. His area of expertise was logistics and he worked for 35 years at Sears Canada as VP of National Distribution. After leaving Sears, David continued to work into his 80s with a number of companies including Canadian Pacific, Canpar, and Dylex after which he started his own consulting company CD Logistics. David loved to travel and explored much of the world. He was a passionate reader, especially regarding the World Wars. David was an avid skier, golfer and sailor. He was passionate about music, ranging from Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Neil Diamond, to classical music and opera. David was a caring and generous man, always considerate of others. For many years, he drove for the Canadian Cancer Society, making many friends along the way. David was always impeccably dressed and always showed up with flowers for the ladies. He embraced his Celtic roots and never missed a chance to wear his kilt. Until his final days, David cared deeply about the welfare of his children and grandchildren. David was a true gentleman who lived a rich and fulfilling life. He will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to a charity of your choice. There will be a celebration of David's life for friends and family in the near future.

I remember with a smile all of the days of golf at the Board of Trade In Woodbridge.
What fun the four of us had. Too numerous to mention here.
Tradition and great memories.

It was a great privilege and pleasure to have worked with Dave. His wealth of logistics experience, extensive network in the industry and his work ethic contributed significantly to the success of our operation. He was a classy gentleman, always smartly dressed, generous and willing to go the extra mile to help. I will miss him – his friendship, charisma and the sweet, boyish smile that he always wore on his handsome face !

Uncle Dave was a man with class and would visit Grams (Rod's
mother) weekly. That spoke volumes on who he was. They are having a glass of sherry by the pool.

David was one of the truly great gentlemen. I enjoyed dinner with David and Marie on many wonderful occasions, and I cherish memories of those evenings. Their home was warm and welcoming, filled with great food, conversation, laughter, books and jello shots and Petal, furniture to curl up in while the conversation flowed as easily as the wine, and David always making sure your glass was never empty. Those times were of the sort you never wanted to end. David always spoke eloquently and with humor and grace. I still envision him there among people, sharing stories, smiling and quite possibly the most gracious man I ever met. We are less without such lovely people.
