GODFREY PALMER
May 22, 1926 - June 16, 2012
Born in Newcastle, Staffordshire, England, youngest of four sons of Joseph and Edith (Hamlett) Palmer. In September 1942, with his family's blessing, he began Naval Officer Training as a Cadet, Royal Naval Reserve, in H.M.S. 'Conway'. In September 1944, he joined Canadian Pacific Steamships on the 'Empress of Scotland'. A year later he met his future wife, Leading Wren Patricia Barrington, on route to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). He had reached the rank of Chief Officer when he left CP and immigrated to Toronto in 1957. Godfrey joined investment dealer Equitable Securities and enjoyed rapid advancement through 25 fulfilling years prior to retirement with Burns Fry in 1988. He was a member of the Ontario Club from 1964 (President 1974) to 2010.
Godfrey was happiest surrounded by his family and is survived by his loving wife Patricia of 63 years. Father to four children, Miles (Eileen), Guy (Shirley), Mirabel (Gary), and Jill, who have been a great source of pride and loving support. Grandfather to Nathan, Erin, Ben and Chloe, Connor and Charlie. Uncle to many nieces and nephews worldwide. The family remembers wonderful family holidays and happy times at Caledon Ski Club and nearby 'Dickies Meadow'.
We thank St. Michael's Hospital for their outstanding care and support. In memoriam, please make donations to the St. Michael's Hospital Foundation or to the charity of your choice. We shall miss your smile, great wit, love and support for which we are all eternally grateful.
