Harold RYAN Obituary
RYAN, Harold Robert Stuart
Died at his Kingston Ontario home of a heart attack age 93. He was one of the founding professors of the Queen's Law Faculty in 1957 and he taught there all his career. Born in Newburgh, Ontario he moved to Port Hope, then studied classics at Trinity College, then Law at Osgoode Hall, then returned to practice law in Port Hope. He became mayor of Port Hope briefly, resigning to serve in the army in WWII. He then returned to his practice until the move to Queen's. His knowledge of the law was legendary as was his generosity in sharing it. He was also active in the Anglican Church, serving as Chancellor of the Diocese of Ontario and helping to bring women into the clergy and re-marriage after divorce into the church. Predeceased by his wife of 53 years Gretchen Harvey of Lakefield, Ontario. He leaves 3 sons and a daughter- in-law, 3 grandchildren, a younger brother and a nephew. The Funeral is at St. George's Cathedral, Kingston on Saturday, April 10 at 12:30 p.m.
